This class exists because of Karla and Iโ€™s work together.

Karla (@crps_elamaa) came to work with me one to one, not long after CRPS came into her life. We spent months together on exactly the material in this class: how to calm a nervous system down far enough that movement becomes possible again, and then how to build back up without losing everything to a flare. Movement is one of the most powerful tools to change complex, persistent pain - but it is also one of the hardest things to integrate in a way that actually doesnโ€™t make it worse. That is my passion, why I do what I do, and what my work with complex patients like Karla focuses on.

Since we worked together, Karla has become a passionate advocate for patientsโ€™ rights and has built something I deeply admire. Kompleksinen Kaksikko Foundation was founded so that people living with severe chronic pain in Finland would not have to navigate everything alone, as so many of us have had to do. Access to treatment and support is limited. There is not enough reliable information, and chronic pain and poorly understood conditions are still surrounded by stigma and prejudice. As a result, many people are left without the help they need to relieve their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

Kompleksinen Kaksikko Foundation is a patient and expert community, podcast, and multi-channel content platform dedicated to raising awareness of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and chronic pain. The organization brings visibility to the realities of living with severe pain, advocates for patientsโ€™ rights and inclusion in society, and fosters peer support and a sense of community. Its work brings together lived experience, professional expertise, and public advocacy. We work with heart and determination. Pain must not remain in the shadowsโ€”it is time for hope and change to grow.

If you are living in Finland, you can register to become a member of their foundation to support advocacy and education efforts, and get special discounted access to events like this. Once you register, you will be sent the members only discount code for this Masterclass.

โ€œI have had the pleasure to work with Justine for a couple of months. It has been the best decision I have done since I got CRPS. Justine is a true professional in her field... If you want to learn how to live your best life with CRPS, are ready to make some changes, and are looking for someone to guide you on the way, you should book a call with Justine.โ€

You have probably already tried. You graduated from physiotherapy. Maybe you tried a gym, or a class, a personal trainer, or an app on your phone. You were told to keep moving by Doctors. To stay active. That โ€œmotion is lotionโ€. So you did. And you flared, often for days. Then you were told you were de-conditioned. Or afraid of movement. Or not trying hard enough...

Here is what I want you to hear, and it's the reason I'm teaching this class. Movement did not fail you. The system did. Most people with complex pain have already done everything that was asked of

them. That is not the problem. The problem is that almost every movement program in existence is written for a nervous system that is interpreting sensation normally, and yours is not.

Join us for this live 2-hour class on how to actually begin moving again when you live with CRPS, hypermobility, fibromyalgia, or another complex pain condition. Taught in English, with live Finnish interpretation throughout.

Why complex patients fall through the cracks.

  • Movement is sensory input. Position, vision, balance, touch, pressure, all at once. A sensitized nervous system amplifies sensation, which creates significant barriers to movement. Many conditions also affect our proprioception due to lack of sensation in certain areas, where others we feel intensely create sensory distractions and mismatches between the systems. Nobody explains this, and without it none of the rest makes sense.

  • Physiotherapy is important, but it is often incomplete. Manual work and corrective exercise matter, but without the sensory piece your body keeps defaulting back to the same movement pattern. To change the motor output, you have to change the sensory input it is based upon.

  • Nobody bridges the gap. You get discharged from physiotherapy and handed back to a world of gyms and classes that were never designed for a body like yours.

  • Allodynia gets treated as a side note. If you cannot tolerate a bedsheet, being told to go for a walk is not a plan. The sensitivity has to come down first before adding more stress, and there is a real method for that.

When it goes wrong, you get blamed. The label lands on you rather than on the plan. That is the part that makes people stop trying, and it is the part that is the most frustrating as someone who has lived this myself. Pushing through pain can work, until it doesnโ€™t. And it inadvertently engrains the patterns we need to change to get out of that cycle.

So we do it in the right order, with the right tools.

This class is built around four steps, in sequence. Almost everyone is trying to start at loading or increasing movement without improving the underlying cracks in the foundation. It is not you, but the approach that explains most of the failure, flares, and frustration.

  1. Rebuild the brain map. Give your brain a clear, safe picture of the area again to begin with.

  2. Calm the sensory input. Bring down the alarm on touch, texture, pressure temperature etc.

  3. Connect the sensory systems. Integrate improved proprioceptive, visual or vestibular input so you can give your brain different options and improve underlying stability.

  4. Transitions and loading. Once you can actually activate areas that have been inhibited, learn how to transition from movement and load it in appropriate ways that bias areas that are still very painful without totally working around them so you can improve compensations and gain strength at a pace your system can actually absorb.

By the end of two hours you will know which step you are actually on, what to do now, and where to go next. For most people, that alone changes everything. It gives you hope, a plan, and removes shame and blame.

We created this masterclass so I could show you the relatively simple principles and techniques that allow even the most complex patients to integrate more movement and mobility successfully, in a way that respects where your nervous system is and improve why the response is so intense and intrusive.

What We Will Cover

1. Why movement keeps failing you: The pattern almost every complex patient goes through, and the four reasons it happens. Why being told you are de-conditioned or afraid of movement usually misses what is actually going on. Itโ€™s simply stating the problem without providing actual solutions.

2. Movement is the result of sensory input: The concept nobody explains, and the one that makes everything else make sense. Your nervous system does not process movement separately from the sensations it is receiving - or not, which is exactly why a sensitized system and muscular inhibition create such a vicious cycle.

3. Pacing, flares and knowing when to stop with co-existing conditions: Post-exertional malaise (PEM) with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, orthostatic intolerance or dizziness with Dysautonomia, and how to work within the capacity you have and know when to gently push that line forward, or pull back.

4. What order to actually do things in: These are the crucial pieces to understand so we can work with, not against your brain when it comes to introducing and progressing movement in a way that doesnโ€™t reinforce the very understandable fear we have with movement, and instead helps us gain confidence and momentum.

Step 1: Rebuild the Brain Map

How persistent pain blurs your brain's picture of the painful area, and how to sharpen it again. with tools available to us all. Guided motor imagery, in three stages, with the right dosing. This is the start to improving the what we add more to with sensory input.

Step 2: Calm the Sensory Input

The heart of the class from a desensitization perspective. Textures, temperature, sound etc already have our nervous system on high alert. Adding movement without desensitizing these first create a very difficult situation.

Step 3: Connect the Sensory Systems

Filling the gap between the input our brain is working with, and what it actually needs to change the output. Adding awareness to where you lack information, downregulating where itโ€™s overwhelming, and stacking your senses so your brain has more to work with.

Step 4: Transitions, Positions, and Loading

Warm-ups and recovery that help transition your nervous system not just your muscles including breathing, release work, gentle activations and positional considerations before adding load that otherwise overwhelm our bodies and feel unsafe.

What You Will Walk Away With:

An understanding of:

  • Why movement flares you, in plain physical terms, and why that is not a personal failing.

  • What a brain map is, how yours has changed, and why your body avoids parts it no longer recognizes clearly.

  • Why weakness and compensations are usually not about muscles at all, but what controls them - our brain.

  • The difference between working with pain and pushing through it, and why one of them makes you worse.

  • When โ€œgraded exposureโ€ is the right approach, and where it can inadvertently go wrong.

Tools and techniques for:

  • The three stages of guided motor imagery, and how to know when you are ready to progress.

  • Tools for staged desensitization including texture and surface plan for allodynia, and temperature tolerance approach you can start in your own shower this week, with real numbers for how long and how often.

  • Strategies to integrate sensory information your brain is desperate for so you can get out of the weakness/spasm cycles that perpetuate inhibition and movement dysfunctions adding to pain output.

  • A warm-up and cool-down structure built for a sensitized nervous system so you can actually influence its response, not just react to it.

  • The 24-hour rule for telling a normal response apart from a flare that means stop.

  • A simple tracking method, because progress in tolerance is nearly invisible without one.

  • Language for your own appointments, so you can better explain what youโ€™re struggling with and why.

Who Is This For?

  • You live with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, hypermobility (hEDS or HSD), Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, long COVID, POTS, Dysautonomia, small fiber neuropathy, or other complex pain conditions.

  • Every time you try to move more, you flare, and you have stopped being able to find specific reasons why.

  • Sound is intense. Touch hurts. Clothing, bedsheets, water in the shower, a breeze on your skin.

  • You have graduated from physiotherapy and been left with no idea what to do on your own.

  • You want to understand what is actually happening, not just be handed a list of exercises that donโ€™t feel unique to your brain and body.

  • You care for someone in this position and want to understand what they are dealing with.

  • You are a clinician, doctor or physiotherapist who works with complex patients and wants unique tools and language that helps them feel seen, understood, and actually able to improve.

What Is This NOT?

  • This is not a personalized program. It is group education. I will not be assessing you individually, but you will be given tools and strategies youโ€™ll be able to individually apply. If you need 1:1 help, this is a great place to start understanding the concepts you need for you unique brain and body.

  • This is not a cure for persistent pain alone. Complex pain does not work that way, many things are pieces of it, but movement is our most powerful tool we have as patients to influence it once we have improved the lifestyle factors that also amplify and make pain more widespread, intense, and difficult to manage or predict.

  • This is not strength training. We deliberately stop before weights and programming, because this webinar is about where to start with movement and help those who have felt stuck with where to begin not feel even more left behind.

  • This is not clinical training. Clinicians and movement professionals are genuinely welcome and will benefit, but everything is built and spoken for patients - which is actually helpful if you are a clinician because it is key to be able to speak their language and understand their experience in order to help them.

  • This is not a diagnosis and it is not medical advice. Keep working with your own medical team and integrate this alongside it so you can improve symptoms you can impact.

One more thing:

I am not going to sell you anything during this class. There is no program at the end, no upsell, no countdown timer. I will mention that I work with people one to one on movement, which you are welcome to follow up on with me after class.

I have been the patient in this story. I lived with a spinal cord stimulator for four years. I could not get around my own house or put my foot on the ground for almost the first 2 years of my CRPS journey. Like I was, the people I work with were told to move more by people who could not tell me how and had never spent a day let alone years in my body feeling what I felt. I pushed through pain constantly which if anything, made it difficult for Doctors to realize how bad it was because โ€˜look at what I was doing despite itโ€™.

The reality was that was not sustainable, and created a host of other issues. What changed things for me was spending years becoming a movement professional alongside my lived patient experience, learning unique techniques and putting them in a sequence that works, so I could consistently progress over time without overwhelming my body. Thatโ€™s how movement becomes one of our most powerful tools, rather than something we avoid and makes things worse.

That is the whole class! I would love to see you there.
